Choosing the right hammer is fundamental to successfully completing any job. There are many types of hammers, each designed for specific tasks.
For general work, a hammer weighing 16-20 ounces is ideal. Steel is the most common material for the head, while the handle can be wood, fiberglass, or steel.
For lighter tasks, such as driving nails, a smaller 8-12 ounce hammer will be more comfortable. For heavy construction work, a 24+ ounce hammer offers more power.
It is important to check the condition of the hammer before each use. Make sure the handle is secure and there are no cracks in the head.
